Hexnode Synapse Agentic IT: Orchestration From a Bootstrapped UEM Underdog
On 10 September 2026, Hexnode introduced Hexnode Synapse agentic IT orchestration at HexCon26, its annual user conference in Atlanta. It deploys specialist AI agents — Device Agent, Identity Agent, and Threat Agent — to coordinate workflows across endpoint management, identity, and security systems. A single prompt like “Onboard John” can trigger identity creation, app license assignment, device configuration, endpoint protection policies, and IT ticket logging as one governed workflow. The system uses admin-defined guardrails, approval gates for sensitive actions, and a traceable execution history.
The pitch is compelling. IT workflows rarely stay inside one product. Onboarding touches HR systems, identity providers, device management, and ticketing. Threat response touches XDR, endpoint controls, and access management. Today, a human connects those systems manually, every time. The new platform aims to automate those handoffs. But the announcement comes with caveats: invite-only trial, no general availability date, no pricing, and no named external customers. This is a vision with a waitlist, not a shipping product.
Why Hexnode Synapse Agentic IT Timed This for September 2026
HexCon26 ran from 9 September in Atlanta. The conference is Hexnode’s primary annual stage for product announcements. CEO Apu Pavithran used the opening keynote to position the company’s direction around “managed outcomes” rather than “managed devices” — a shift from telling administrators what to do toward the platform doing the work itself within defined boundaries.
The timing reflects broader industry momentum. Agentic AI has become the dominant framework for enterprise IT operations in 2026. Ivanti announced agentic AI capabilities for its Neurons platform in January 2026, including persona-based agents for ITSM and Autonomous Endpoint Management. CrowdStrike’s Charlotte AI delivers agentic detection triage, cross-domain investigation, and AgentWorks for custom agent building, launched broadly at RSA 2026. Microsoft, AWS, and others have launched forward-deployed engineering initiatives specifically to help enterprises deploy agentic AI. Hexnode is entering a market where the concept is proven but the execution bar is rising fast.
The announcement also follows Hexnode’s inclusion in the 2026 Gartner Magic Quadrant for Endpoint Management Tools and the IDC MarketScape UEM Vendors Assessment 2025/26, which listed it as a leader and major player. Forrester included Hexnode as a Notable vendor in its UEM Landscape, Q3 2025. These recognitions give Hexnode credibility as a UEM vendor. Synapse extends that credibility into agentic orchestration — a category that did not exist when Apu Pavithran founded Hexnode in 2013.
The Competitive Picture: Agentic IT Ops Is Crowded
The new orchestration layer enters a field where larger, better-funded competitors are already shipping agentic AI for IT and security operations.
Ivanti Neurons
Ivanti announced its Unified Agentic Framework in January 2026, with persona-based agentic AI for ITSM, Autonomous Endpoint Management, and enhanced asset visibility. Moreover, Ivanti serves over 34,000 customers, including 85 of the Fortune 100. Its Neurons platform unifies UEM, ITSM, and network security into a single system of record with AI embedded across the platform. Ivanti’s agentic AI for ITSM entered customer preview in Q1 2026, with general availability targeted for later in 2026. Ivanti’s advantage is scale: 34,000 customers versus Hexnode’s presence in 130 countries without disclosed customer count.
CrowdStrike Charlotte AI
CrowdStrike’s Charlotte AI is the most mature agentic layer in security operations. It dispatches specialised agents across endpoint, identity, cloud, and network domains simultaneously. Agentic Detection Triage is in production with over 98% accuracy against CrowdStrike’s Falcon Complete MDR team decisions. AgentWorks enables no-code custom agent development, launched with partners including AWS, Anthropic, NVIDIA, and OpenAI at RSA 2026. Charlotte Agentic SOAR orchestrates governed response actions. CrowdStrike’s advantage is depth: it reasons over Falcon telemetry, which is one of the largest endpoint security datasets in the industry.
Microsoft Intune + Copilot
Microsoft’s enterprise AI distribution through Copilot is the deepest in the market. Intune manages endpoints; Defender for Endpoint handles security; Entra ID manages identity. Copilot integrates across all three. For enterprises already standardised on Microsoft 365 E5, the agentic IT stack is largely included in existing licensing. Microsoft’s advantage is bundling: no separate procurement for agentic capabilities.
Tanium
Tanium’s linear-chain architecture queries 100,000+ endpoints in seconds, which no UEM console matches for ad-hoc investigation. Tanium is commonly deployed alongside Intune as a security operations layer. Its real-time fleet visibility and integrated response give it a distinct position for large enterprises that need speed over breadth.
Where Hexnode Synapse sits
The new orchestration layer differentiates through its unified architecture: UEM, XDR, and IdP on one platform, with Synapse as the orchestration layer on top. Competitors like Ivanti and Microsoft also offer unified platforms, but Hexnode’s pitch is that its products were built as one system from the start, sharing the same data model and intelligence layer. The guardrails, approval gates, and Execution Centre audit trail are genuinely thoughtful design choices for governed autonomy. The question is whether Hexnode has the engineering depth and customer base to deliver on the vision at enterprise scale.
What the Public Data Shows
Three external data points sharpen the picture beyond the press release.
First, Hexnode’s company scale. Mitsogo, Hexnode’s parent company, started in 2013 under founder Apu Pavithran. It operates from San Francisco with major engineering in Chennai and Bangalore. The company bootstrapped itself — zero external funding raised, per Crunchbase and GetLatka. Estimated 2025 revenue is $46.2 million. The valuation reached $138.6 million in 2025 during an M&A offer round. LinkedIn shows approximately 540 employees with 28.6% year-on-year growth, while Revelio Labs estimates 783 employees as of March 2026. Most employees work in India (81-89% depending on source). This is a lean, profitable, India-built company competing against Ivanti (34,000+ customers), CrowdStrike (multi-billion-dollar revenue), and Microsoft (the largest software company in the world).
Second, the UEM market recognition is real. Hexnode’s inclusion in the 2026 Gartner Magic Quadrant for Endpoint Management Tools is a meaningful credibility marker. The IDC MarketScape listing as a leader and major player validates the core UEM product. Forrester’s Notable vendor designation in the UEM Landscape confirms analyst awareness. These recognitions matter for procurement teams that require analyst validation before shortlisting.
Third, the “Onboard John” workflow example is compelling but unverified. The press release describes a single prompt triggering identity creation, app license assignment, device configuration, endpoint protection, and ticket logging — with self-recovery if a step stalls and automatic ticket-raising when licenses run out. This is an excellent demo scenario. But no customer appears as having deployed this workflow in production. No performance metrics, error rates, or cycle-time improvements appear in the release. The example is aspirational until proven otherwise.
What’s New vs. What’s Repackaged
New: Hexnode Synapse as an agentic orchestration layer is genuinely new for Hexnode. The three specialist agents (Device, Identity, Threat) and the cross-product sequencing capability represent a real architectural addition. The Execution Centre, with its traceable audit history, is a practical governance tool. Custom agent creation, dynamic agent chaining, and proactive background agents are on the roadmap.
Repackaged: The agentic IT operations concept is not new. Ivanti announced agentic AI for ITSM in January 2026. CrowdStrike’s Charlotte AI has been shipping agentic detection triage since before RSA 2026. Microsoft Copilot integrates across endpoint, identity, and security. Hexnode Synapse is a credible implementation of an established pattern, not a new category.
Improved: Hexnode’s existing Genie AI assistant gains agentic capabilities through the Hexnode Context Layer, which powers Genie interactions with live fleet context. The shift from “telling you what to do” to “doing the work” is a genuine evolution from Hexnode’s previous AI capabilities.
Unclear: The press release does not specify which AI models power the agents, whether they use LLMs from OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, or proprietary models. It does not disclose the data residency or privacy model for agent reasoning. It does not mention whether Synapse requires additional licensing beyond existing Hexnode UEM, XDR, or IdP subscriptions. The initial integrations — ServiceNow, Zendesk, Microsoft Entra ID, BambooHR — are narrow. Workday appears on the Synapse product page but not in the press release. Slack and Teams connectors show on the website but not in the launch announcement.
The Question That Wasn’t Answered
The sharpest unanswered question: can a 540-person, bootstrapped company deliver enterprise-grade agentic AI orchestration at scale?
Agentic AI for IT operations requires deep integration with multiple enterprise systems, robust identity and access management, real-time telemetry processing, and governance frameworks that satisfy compliance audits. Ivanti has 34,000 customers and a dedicated platform team. CrowdStrike processes trillions of security events daily. Microsoft has the largest enterprise software distribution channel in the world. Hexnode has a strong UEM product, analyst recognition, and a compelling vision. But building agentic orchestration that works reliably across heterogeneous enterprise environments — with self-recovery, license management, and audit-grade traceability — is an engineering challenge of a different order than managing devices.
A secondary question concerns availability. Synapse will enter “invite-only trial later this year.” No general availability date, pricing, or licensing model appears in the announcement. Organisations evaluating agentic IT orchestration today cannot buy Hexnode Synapse. They can register for a waitlist. Ivanti’s agentic AI for ITSM is in customer preview. CrowdStrike’s Charlotte AI is shipping in production. Microsoft Copilot is generally available. By the time Synapse reaches GA, competitors will have months of production deployment experience and customer feedback.
For IT teams budgeting agentic AI initiatives, the absence of pricing or licensing details represents a material gap.
What This Means for You
If you are an existing Hexnode UEM customer, The orchestration layer is a credible roadmap item worth tracking. The unified UEM-XDR-IdP architecture with an orchestration layer is architecturally sound. Register for the invite-only trial and evaluate the “Onboard John” workflow against your own onboarding process. Measure the cycle-time reduction and error-rate improvement against your current manual workflow. But do not commit to Synapse as a production dependency until GA dates, pricing, and customer case studies are available.
If you are evaluating agentic IT orchestration and are not a Hexnode customer, look at Ivanti Neurons first. Ivanti has 34,000 customers, a shipping agentic AI framework, and a broader ITSM and security platform. If your primary need is security-focused agentic operations, CrowdStrike Charlotte AI is the most mature option. If you are a Microsoft shop, Copilot across Intune, Defender, and Entra ID is likely already in your licensing.
For industry observers, Hexnode Synapse agentic IT is a well-designed product vision from a bootstrapped company that has earned analyst recognition. The guardrails, approval gates, and Execution Centre are thoughtful. The unified platform architecture is a genuine differentiator. But the gap between vision and shipping product is where most agentic AI initiatives fail. The invite-only trial, the absence of named customers, and the lack of pricing or GA dates mean the platform is a promise, not a product. Watch what ships, not what is announced.
